The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has plans to establish four new police stations, Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar has said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Khilkhet Police Outpost at the Police Officers' Housing Society in the 300-Feet Road area, Sarwar revealed that the proposal for one station is currently at the ministry level, while the process for the remaining three is under way.
According to Sarwar, the new stations will be strategically placed to manage high-density and expanding areas.
Rayerbazar is currently operating as a police outpost and is proposed to be upgraded into a full police station.
A new police station is also planned to serve parts of Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Hazaribagh.
Another proposed police station, named Bashundhara, will be formed by taking portions from the existing Bhatara, Badda, and Khilkhet police station jurisdictions.
In addition, there is a proposal to establish a new police station within the Khilgaon area.
With Purbachal set to come under the Dhaka North City Corporation, the DMP has already submitted a massive infrastructure proposal for the township.
"We have proposed four police stations and six outposts for Purbachal," Sarwar said.
"Additionally, we have requested 6,000 personnel to man a new Police Lines, an MTO workshop, and a dedicated Traffic Division in that area."
Over the last few months, accommodation has been arranged for approximately 8,000 police members, Sarwar said.
The DMP is shifting its MTO workshop to Bosila.
The new facility will house 150 to 200 mechanics and the office of the DC (MTO).
The DMP’s Motor Driving Training School, which began operations in Bosila last year, is currently being expanded.
These moves follow the recent inauguration of police camps in Bosila and Karwan Bazar aimed at stabilising the city's law and order situation.
