Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities has proposed to install luggage scanners and archways at metro rail stations across the capital.
"We don't have any specific threat for metro rail system. But we have proposed to install luggage scanners and archways at metro rail stations. We would use handheld metal detectors in the meantime," said DMP Additional Commissioner (crime and operations) Dr Kha Mohid Uddin.
The DMP official said these while briefing newsmen after inspecting the activities of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Police unit and security system at Agargaon metro rail station on Thursday afternoon.
"DMP was in-charge of security of metro rail from the very beginning. Even today 132 policemen from DMP are performing their duties along with the MRT Police. We would continue to work for the safety of each and every vehicles and every part of metro rail in the city," Dr Mohid added.
Emphasising the application of all the necessary security systems for metro rail, the additional commissioner said this is a very important installation for communication in the capital and it should be brought under a heightened CCTV camera monitoring system.
