Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar has warned of taking action immediately against the operation of unfit buses to ensure safe journey for the Eid-ul-Fitr holidaymakers.
"No unfit buses will be allowed during Eid season because when a bus breaks down, it causes traffic congestion. Carrying more passengers than capacity, running buses at over-speed, and operating buses with sick drivers have been banned," he said while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the public transport owners and workers at a bus stand in the capital on Saturday.
He said that helpdesks have been set up at bus terminals and lists of fares have been hung there.
He warned of taking instant action against those found charging extra fare, scalping tickets or harassing passengers.
The DMP Acting Commissioner further said that around 800 to 900 additional traffic police personnel will be deployed in bus and launch terminals and rail stations to maintain law and order centring the Eid journey.
The commissioner also noted that trucks, lorries and covered vans will run in a limited scale during the Eid.
Meanwhile, DMP has offered escort service for safe transport of cash and gold ornaments during the upcoming Eid.
It has urged citizens to use its special "Money Escort Service" for the safe transportation of cash and gold ornaments within the capital.
According to the DMP, individuals and business institutions transporting large amounts of money or valuable gold ornaments can seek police escort support to ensure security and prevent theft or robbery.

The DMP authorities further said that the service is particularly important for traders, jewelers and individuals who need to carry large sums of money or valuable items from one place to another within the capital Dhaka.
It (DMP) also advised citizens to take advantage of this facility and inform the police in advance while transporting valuables to ensure safe and hassle-free movement.
