The Dhaka North City Corporation, or DNCC, has scrapped the jobs of six advisors, two peons, and a cook - the jobs former mayor Atiqul Islam allegedly used his influence to create.
An office order to this end, signed by DNCC Secretary Masud Alam Siddique, was issued on Monday.
The appointments of all advisors, consultants, peons and the cook made under the Local Government City Corporation Act 2009 have been revoked from Aug 19.
The order has been issued with the approval of the appropriate authority, the notice read.
Atiqul appointed Prof Nazrul Islam, chairman of the Centre for Urban Studies, or CUS; Imran Ahmed, deputy executive director at Shakti Foundation; Iqbal Habib, an architect; Salma A Shafi, general secretary of CUS; and Jahangirnagar University zoology teacher Kabirul Bashar as advisors on Nov 24, 2022.
However, they did not receive any remuneration from the DNCC.
Saidul Islam was employed as a cook by Atiqul along with Md Ashikur Rahman and Md Saiful Islam as peons in 2023.
The interim government unseated 12 city corporation mayors on Aug 19 following the shift in power after Sheikh Hasina’s government was brought down by a massive student-led movement on Aug 5.
Atiqul also lost his post as DNCC mayor in the changeover.
