DNCC to form three committees to enforce fire safety in buildings

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is going to form three committees to ensure that all the buildings under its jurisdiction have fire safety measures.

The decision was taken at a views-exchange meeting held at the Nagar Bhaban on Thursday with DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam in the chair, reports UNB.

The three committees will be named as Central Committee, Technical Committee and Inspection Committee.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abdul Hai will be convener of the Central Committee while its members will include the Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate, fire safety specialists and representatives of different business establishments that provide fire safety services.

The Technical Committee will be comprised of representatives of different fire-safety service providing entities and it will be led by a professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Members of the Inspection Committee, which has already been constituted with DNCC Zonal Executive Officer as its head, will include representatives of different fire-safety service providing companies.

The third committee has already visited 33 buildings, including multi-storey educational institutions, markets, hospitals and private offices.

Addressing the meeting, the DNCC mayor said, "Fire safety should be ensured gradually in all the buildings under the DNCC. Nobody will be spared in this regard. We have to work together with people, private, commercial and social organisations," he said.

Representatives from different organisations promised to provide all kinds of cooperation to ensure the fire-extinguishing system in at least five buildings each.

DNCC CEO Abdul Hai, its Chief Engineer Brig Gen Muhammad Jubayer Salehin, Emkay Enterprise Ltd Advisor SM Nurul Haque, its Managing Director Muntasir Karim, former Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate Brig Gen (retd) Ali Ahmed Khan, CEO of Iota Consulting BD Md Golam Kibria and ELEVATE Global Ltd MD Mamun Zaman were, among others, present at the meeting.
