Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam has strongly urged city residents not to dispose of sacrificial waste indiscriminately and to use jute bags for waste disposal.

He made the appeal during a press briefing on Wednesday morning after visiting the National Eidgah along with State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam.

He said, “After the Eid congregation scheduled at 7:30am, sacrificial rituals will take place across Dhaka city over the next three days. We are fully prepared to clean up all sacrificial waste during this period.”

“Through you (journalists), I would like to make just one request to the residents of Dhaka city — they should not perform sacrifices indiscriminately, but rather at designated locations. We have supplied more than 100,000 jute bags to city residents. We hope they will dispose of the waste in those bags. Under no circumstances should waste be thrown into drains. We have repeatedly emphasised the urgent importance of this issue.”

The city administrator said, “What will happen if waste is thrown into the drains? Since it is currently the rainy season and rainfall is regular, blocked drains could cause water to overflow onto the streets. We have requested everyone to remain aware of this matter.”

“We have supplied Savlon and bleaching powder to residents. We request that after completing the sacrifice,s people thoroughly wash the area and use bleaching powder and Savlon. We also ask them to cooperate with our sanitation workers.”

Salam added, “As you know, the Eid holidays for city corporation officials and employees have been cancelled. During this Eid, they will remain engaged in serving you.”

“I hope everyone will cooperate with them.”

Seeking full cooperation from city residents, the city administrator said, “We want the cooperation of residents so that everyone can celebrate Eid beautifully. Just as we keep our own house clean, we should also try to keep our surroundings clean. We should also try to keep the road in front of our house clean.”

“If we all change, Dhaka city will change. Let us work together to present a clean and green city — the vision of the prime minister — as a gift to him and the people of the country.”
