Dr M A Wazed Miah an iconic figure to youths: Speaker

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Friday that nuclear scientist of international repute and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband, the late Dr M A Wazed Miah, was an iconic personality to the youth. 

“The ideals and philosophy of Dr M A Wazed Miah are exemplary for the science-minded young generation,” she told a discussion in the Upazila Parisad auditorium organised by the upazila administration at Pirganj in Rangpur as the chief guest marking the 82nd birth anniversary of Dr Wazed Miah.

Shirin, the lawmaker from Pirganj, asked the young generation to read the books written by Wazed Miah, including his autobiography, so that they could contribute to various fields, including science.

Highlighting the colourful life of Dr Wazed Miah, she also said the people of Pirganj are proud to have an internationally renowned nuclear scientist like him.

She urged the young generation to become science-minded so that a smart Bangladesh could be built through their hands in the coming days.

Earlier, she attended the inauguration ceremony of the Barendra Bahumukhi Unnayan Kartipakkha building at Pirganj Upazila Parishad.

Later, the Speaker distributed winter clothes among the cold-stricken people on Khalashpir Darulhuda Madrasah premises located at Number-5 Madankhali Union of Pirganj Upazila.
