Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin becomes first elected president of BPMCA

Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin of Ad-din Women’s Medical College has become the first elected president of the Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA), while Professor Dr Md Moazzem Hossain, chairman of East-West Medical College, has been elected its general secretary.

This is the first time the association has held direct elections for its leadership. The vote took place on Wednesday (16 July) at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka.

Polling ran from 10am to 4pm. Of 110 registered members, 92 cast their votes. A three-member board led by Dr Md Moinul Ahsan oversaw the process.

Dr Muhammad Abdus Sabur from Bashundhara Ad-din Medical College was elected organisational secretary from the Mohiuddin–Mukit panel.

In the main contest, Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin and Dr M A Mukit of North Bengal Medical College stood on one panel as president and general secretary candidates, respectively. Their rivals were Afroza Khanam Rita, chairman of Munno Medical College, and Dr Md Moazzem Hossain.

Elections were held for 21 posts in total, including president, general secretary, five vice presidents, four joint secretaries, a treasurer, one organisational secretary, three divisional secretaries, a legal affairs secretary, an education and welfare secretary, and three executive members.
