Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus says that the sacrifices made by the heroes of the July Uprising will become truly meaningful when Bangladesh transforms into a people-oriented and welfare-driven state.
In a video message posted to the CA's official Facebook page on Tuesday, the first anniversary of the July Uprising, Yunus emphasised that the sacrifices of the martyrs who stood up against tyranny will not go in vain, bdnews24.com reports.
"Their sacrifice will be the inspiration that guides our path. Their dreams will form the blueprint for the Bangladesh we are building. Let this be our pledge on this day,” he said.
On August 5, 2024, a student-led mass uprising toppled the Awami League regime after 15 years, with ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India.
The anniversary of the uprising is now being observed nationwide as July Uprising Day. As part of the celebrations, the chief adviser's video message was broadcast across the country on Tuesday at various district-level programmes organised by local administrations.
At 5:00 pm, the head of government is scheduled to read out the July Proclamation at Dhaka's Manik Mia Avenue.
The event will be attended by representatives of political parties, family members of the July martyrs, and wounded protesters.
A day-long cultural programme has also been arranged at the venue to commemorate the occasion.
