The students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) staged demonstrations on Tuesday, protesting the promotion of a driver to the post of engineer at the BEPZA complex as well as demanding fulfillment of their three-point charter of demands.

The agitated students brought out a procession from the RUET central library at around noon. The march paraded across the campus before heading to the main gate. They later blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway at Binodpur.

Chanting slogans the demonstrators expressed their anger at what they termed 'a blatant violation of the dignity of the engineering profession'.

Ridwan Siddiqui, a student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, said: "This promotion exposes a deep-rooted conspiracy in the country's engineering sector. We demand an immediate end to such mockery and urge the authorities to accept our three-point demand."

Echoing his stance, Meheran Al Banna Yusha, a student of the Mechanical Engineering department, alleged: "Since 2013, a diploma syndicate, backed by the authoritarian government, has become a major obstacle to national development. To reform the engineering sector and ensure justice, this syndicate must be dismantled. We expect the interim government to take necessary measures to resist such malpractice."
