‘Drug pedlar’ dies in Chandpur ‘gunfight’ with police

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police at East Sriramdi of Chandpur district town early Wednesday amid the ongoing anti-narcotics drive.

The deceased was identified as Yunus Miaji alias Sumon, 35, son of Abdul Majid Miaji of Middle Sriramdi Bou Bazar area.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:45 am, said Wali Ullah Oli, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire over police forcing them to retaliate in self-defense.

After a brief gunfight, Yunus sustained bullet injuries and taken to Chandpur General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Five policemen were injured in the incident.

Yunus was wanted in eight several cases, said the OC.

Police also recovered 101 pieces of Yaba tablets, one gun, six bullets and two sharp weapons from the spot, reports UNB.
