The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam on Tuesday distributed Eid grants among city cleaners on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and separately handed over DSCC-funded assistance to imams and muezzins ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The grants were distributed at two separate programmes held at Nagar Bhaban.
According to officials, the Prime Minister on March 15 provided cheques to city corporation administrators as Eid support for sanitation workers. A total of 4,950 cleaners under DSCC each received Tk 5,000, amounting to Tk 2.475 crore. The DSCC administrator formally handed over the money to the workers.
Addressing the cleaners, the administrator said that just as the Prime Minister extended Eid gifts to them, they should reciprocate by contributing towards building a clean and green city.
In another programme, DSCC distributed Eid assistance from its own funds among 1,870 imams and 1,870 muezzins. Each imam received Tk 3,000 while each muezzin received Tk 1,500, totaling Tk 84.15 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, the administrator urged imams to take a leading role in promoting civic awareness, particularly in waste management and mosquito control, and sought their support in building public opinion for a cleaner city.
Among others, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Secretary Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman Talukder and other senior officials were present at the programme.
