The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will work in tandem with Dhaka University (DU), the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to maintain cleanliness on their campuses.

Furthermore, no illegal shops will be allowed to operate on the road outside the DMCH.

DSCC Administrator Md Shahjahan Mia made the remarks on Saturday while leading a cleanup and eviction drive at Dhaka University, BUET, and DMCH areas.

He said, “Dhaka South City Corporation will work in coordination with these three institutions. To ensure a healthy environment and reduce traffic congestion in the hospital area, no unauthorised business will be permitted in front of Dhaka Medical College. The DSCC and hospital authorities will work together on this matter.”

Local Government Division Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, who attended the event as chief guest, said: “Starting today, we will continue to work together to remove unauthorised establishments and outsiders from our campuses, keeping them as clean as universities in the developed world.”

As part of the cleanliness campaign, operations were carried out at the campuses of DU, BUET, and DMCH. The drive began at 6am and involved 1,300 DSCC workers, members of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), and campus cleaning staff.

During the operation, drains, sewers, and pavements were cleaned, and mosquito repellent was sprayed.

Illegal shops and structures along the pavements and roads from Anandabazar intersection to the Central Shaheed Minar were also evicted.
