The Dhaka University (DU) has canceled the previously announced three-day holiday (September 8-10) for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election. Instead, classes and examinations will remain suspended only on the voting day, September 9. The decision was announced on Wednesday night at an emergency press briefing by Chief Returning Officer Prof. Jasim Uddin.
"Only September 9 will be a holiday for classes and exams due to the DUCSU election. On September 8 and 10, classes will continue as usual."
According to him, a festive atmosphere is prevailing on the campus centering the polls. "We want to maintain this environment. I hope everyone will cooperate," he added.
To ensure wider participation, the number of polling booths has also been increased. "Initially we planned to set up 500 booths. But to facilitate students' participation, the number has been raised to 710," Professor Jasim Uddin said.
Voting will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. If students still remain waiting after 4:00 pm, they will be allowed to vote.
He also confirmed that shuttle bus services will remain available on the election day to help female students participate in the polls.
