Dhaka University has been declared closed for 15 days due to an emergency situation following a recent earthquake.

As per the announcement, students have been instructed to leave their residential halls by 5:00 pm of Sunday. The directive was issued in a notice sent on Saturday night by Acting Director of the Public Relations Office Mohammad Rafiqul Islam.

The notice said, all university offices will remain open during this period.

According to the notice, an emergency meeting of the Dhaka University Syndicate was held virtually on Saturday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan. The meeting reviewed the physical and psychological impact of the recent earthquake and its aftershocks on students, prioritizing their overall safety.

Experts from BUET, along with the university’s Director of Planning and Development and the Chief Engineer, presented their assessments. Their opinion emphasized that the residential halls must undergo thorough inspection, detailed risk assessment, and necessary repairs. For this evaluation and potential renovation to proceed safely, the halls need to be vacated.

The meeting therefore decided to suspend all classes and examinations until 6 December, and to empty all residential halls urgently. Hall provosts were requested to ensure that students vacate the halls by 5:00pm on 23 November 2025 (Sunday).

The notice further said, all university offices will remain open during this period.

Syndicate members attended the meeting, along with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Principal of Dhaka Medical College, and acting officials from the Planning and Development Office, the Examination Controller’s Office, and the Engineering Department.
