The Dhaka University (DU) has decided to reopen its residential halls and resume regular in-person classes from 28 December, following a technical assessment conducted after the recent earthquakes. To minimise the academic gap during the emergency closure, ongoing online classes will continue until 13 December.
The information was shared in a press release, issued by the university's Public Relations Office on Wednesday (3 December). The decision was finalised at a meeting of the Deans' Committee, held in the Vice-Chancellor's (VC) conference room in the morning.
According to the press release, the Deans' Committee reviewed the overall progress of the technical inspection and evaluation of the residential halls, carried out after the earthquakes. The recommendations of the sub-committee, formed with experts from BUET and DU Engineering Office were also discussed.
The notice further stated that, based on the experts' recommendations and overall considerations, the meeting decided to keep the previously announced winter vacation unchanged.
Additionally, 23 and 24 December were included as part of the vacation. DU residential halls will reopen, and regular classes will begin on 28 December.
No internal examinations will be held during the vacation. However, to address the academic shortfall caused by the emergency situation, online classes will continue until 13 December.
