DU student gets life term for tactically killing wife in Satkhira

A court in Satkhira on Wednesday sentenced a student of Dhaka University (DU) to life term imprisonment for killing his wife, also a DU student from Khanpur village in Sadar upazila in 2012.

The condemned convict is, Abdul Kuddus, 25, then a first year student of political science department of DU and the son of late Mohiuddin Sardar of Shakianthopur village in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna district.

The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment, reports UNB.

According to the case, Abdul strangled Mashuda Sultana to death on June 12, 2012. Mashuda, 20, was a first year student of law department of DU and daughter of late Shahsufi Ahmed of the upazila.

Mashuda and Abdul fell in love and got married in 2012. But after some days, Abdul again fell in love with another girl of the university. Following this, Mashuda objected him and requested not to get involved in another relationship.

At one stage, Abdul came to visit his father-in-law’s house where he called his wife to her room and fed her sleeping pills tactically and strangled her to death.

Later, in the morning Abdul surrendered to Sadar Police Station and confessed to masterminding the killing.

On the following day, victim's uncle Abdullahi-Ghalib filed a case with the police station.

After examining records and witnesses, Satkhira Sessional Court-1 Judge Arshaful Islam handed down the verdict in the noon.
