EC allocates electoral symbols to DNCC mayoral aspirants

The Election Commission on Sunday allocated symbols among the candidates vying for the posts of mayor for the by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Atiqul Islam of Awami League secured the 'Boat' symbol while Jatiya Party mayoral aspirant Shafin Ahmed was allocated "Plough" symbol. Besides Independent candidate Abdur Rahim got 'Table Clock', National People's Party's Anisur Rahman received 'Mango' and Progressive Democratic Party's Shahin Khan got 'Tiger' symbol.

With the allocation of symbols, aspirants can start their electioneering officially from today (Sunday), DNCC Election Returning Officer Abul Kashem said while distributing the election symbol in the morning.

According to the election schedule, they will be able to continue their campaign till 12:00am on February 26, reports UNB.

He urged all the candidates to follow the electoral code of conduct during their campaign.

The Election Commission on January 22 announced the schedules for by-polls to the DNCC mayoral post, and its councillor posts in 18 new wards as well as the councillor posts of Dhaka South City Corporation in its 18 new wards fixing February 28 for the balloting.

The DNCC mayoral post fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on November 30 last year.
