EC to postpone Sherpur-3 election following Jamaat candidate’s death

Election in the Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi–Jhenaigati) constituency is set to be postponed following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated candidate and district Jamaat secretary Nuruzzaman Badal, 51.

Under election laws, voting in a constituency must be suspended if a valid candidate dies. The Election Commission is reviewing the matter and will issue a gazette notification after further legal assessment.

A fresh election schedule will be announced for the constituency as part of the legal procedure.

Nuruzzaman Badal died around 1:30 am on Wednesday (February 14). He had long been suffering from kidney-related complications.
