The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday fixed a budget of Tk 2.7183 billion for five forces who will be deployed to maintain law and order during the parliamentary polls.
They are -- police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar and VDP.
Of the amount, Tk 632 million (Tk 63,22,84,250) have been allocated for police, Tk 101 million (Tk 10,20,28,850) for RAB, Tk 15.6 million (Tk 1,56,00,000) for Coast Guard, Tk 330 million (Tk 33,02,43,884) for BGB, Tk 1.6381 billion (Tk 163,81,75,600) for Ansar and VDP.
Village Defence Party, or VDP, members will be deployed in national election duty for the first time. About 45,000 VDP members will get Tk 1,000 each for their two-day duty, reports UNB.
EC officials also hinted that its expenditure during the election may exceed its budget of Tk 7.0 billion (Tk 700 crore).
