EDITOR'S COUNCIL: Nurul Kabir, Dewan Hanif Mahmud made president, GS

Nurul Kabir, Editor of the New Age, and Dewan Hanif Mahmud, Editor and Publisher of the daily Banik Barta, have been elected president and general secretary (GS), respectively, of the Editors' Council for a two-year term.

The election took place at the AGM at The Daily Star Centre in the capital on Thursday. Tasmima Hossain, Editor of The Daily Ittefaq, has been elected vice president, while Rusho Mahmud, Editor of the daily Suprobhat Bangladesh, assistant general secretary.

Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star; Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Editor of the daily Manab Zamin; Matiur Rahman, Editor of the daily Prothom Alo; Md Mozammel Haque, Editor of the daily Karatoa; and AMM Bahauddin, Editor of the daily Inqilab, have been elected as executive committee members.

The AGM was presided over by outgoing president Mahfuz Anam, where members of the Editor's Council including Shamsul Huq Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express, were present, among others .

Newly-inducted members of the Council include Shahed Mohammad Ali of the daily Samakal, Inam Ahmed of The Business Standard, Hasan Hafiz of the daily Kaler Kantho, Abu Taher of the daily Bangladesh Pratidin, and Md Rezaul Karim of the Daily Sun.

Members congratulated the new committee and pledged to strengthen the Council's activities through cooperation.
