The Editors' Council has called on the government to take strict measures against mob justice in all types of institutions, including media outlets.

Mahfuz Anam, president of the council, and Dewan Hanif Mahmud, general secretary made this appeal in a statement on Tuesday.

In the statement, the Editors' Council expressed concern over recent incidents, including protests, attacks, and vandalism in front of the offices of leading dailies Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.

The Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has also voiced concern and condemned these incidents, the statement said.

Additionally, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing and Information and Broadcasting Ministry Adviser Nahid Islam have denounced such acts and emphasized the importance of legal action, which the council has welcomed as a positive step.

The Editors' Council stated that anyone with differing opinions regarding a newspaper's reporting or editorial policies has the right to express their intellectual stance and arguments through appropriate platforms.

However, attempts to create disorder in this manner disrupt the practice and environment of journalism, the statement said.

The council strongly condemned such incidents and urged all concerned parties to refrain from activities that undermine the freedom of the press.
