Education ministry forms five-member committee to review 'Sharifa's story'

The Ministry of Education on Wednesday formed a five-member committee to review 'Sharifa's story' in the history and social science textbook of the seventh grade in the wake of controversies.
Islamic Arabic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdur Rashid has been made the convener of the committee, according to a local media report.
Other members of the committee are Islamic Foundation Governor Kafil Uddin Sarker, NCTB member Md Moshiuzzaman, Dhaka University IER Director Professor Abdul Halim and Dhaka Alia Madrasah Principal Professor Abdur Rashid.
Abul Khair, information and public relations officer of the ministry, said on Wednesday, "Given the confusions that have arisen, the education ministry has formed a high-level expert committee of five members to assist the NCTB in a more in-depth review of the matter."
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel said a day ago that if there is any ambiguity or dispute in the presentation of the text of Hijra community in the history and social science book of the seventh grade, it would be amended.
