Eid-ul-Fitr: Changes in metro rail schedule

The Dhaka metro rail has brought little changes in the operation of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line-06 centring Eid-ul-Fitr.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) managing director (MD) MAN Siddique said MRT-06 would be operated from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at 20-minute intervals on April 20.

Now, the interval time is 10 minutes.

Mr Siddique said the MRT would be operated on Eid day from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The decision of shifting time On Eid day is because people will be busy with Eid congregations and meeting people nearby in the first hour.

Mr Siddique was speaking to the media at DMTCL office in the presence of high officials, including project director of MRT-06, MRT-05 North and MRT-05 South, on Monday.

The DMTCL is expecting the start of physical work on MRT-05 north by July if its board meeting approves the contract package-01 today (Tuesday).

About road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader's comment on MRT-06 opening from Agargaon to Motijheel by November, the MD said the company always expects early commissioning of MRT-06.

But time is yet to come to say whether it will be possible for the operation of the Agargaon-Motijheel part by November, he added.

Mr Siddique, however, said performance test of this part will be started as per schedule and it will take at least three months to complete the test.

The DMCTL launched the first half of MRT-06 from Uttara to Agargaon for passengers on 29 December 2022.

It earlier spoke about the opening of the last half by next December.
