An elected parliament is best for a radical change to the constitution or for a new constitution, BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
To radically change the constitution, there should be a revolutionary government but the interim government is not revolutionary, he explained in response to a reporters’ query during an informal views exchange with reporters at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Saturday morning.
Besides, the interim government took oath under the existing constitution so any changes must now be made within the framework of the existing constitution, he said, adding: “We, as a party, have already started working on what changes can be made to the constitution.”
Regarding the committee formed for reforming the constitution, he said that those who have been tasked with reforming the constitution are undoubtedly highly experts. They would do it very well. But that must happen with people’s consent, he said.
