Election Commission wants transfer of UNOs before polls

The Election Commission wants to move some Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) to other places before the 12th parliamentary elections scheduled for January 7.

The Upazila chief executives, or UNOs, who are at the same place for more than a year, will need to be transferred following the EC’s order, reports bdnews24.com citing a letter sent to the public administration ministry on Thursday.

Currently, the UNOs are serving as the assistant returning officers for the 12th parliamentary election.

EC Secretary Jahangir Alam said: "We need to make realistic changes. I'll share more information from the office tomorrow."

After the election schedule is announced, the commission can approve moving officials.

The Election Commission also asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to transfer all officers-in-charge (OC) of police stations across the country in phases to conduct the election in a fair manner.
