Election official among three arrested over Rohingya NIDs

Three people, including a staff of the Chattogram election office, were held in the port city on Monday night for allegedly helping Rohingyas in acquiring National Identity Cards (NIDs) of Bangladesh.

The arrestees were identified as Md Joynal Abedin, 35, office assistant of Double Mooring Election Office, Bijoy Das, 26, and his sister Sima Das, 24, residents of Patiya upazila, reports UNB.

Chattogram Election Officer Munir Hossain Chowdhury said they arrested three people including election office assistant Joynal for helping Rohingyas to get NID cards and handed them over to police.  

Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they got information from election office and police were sent to the spot.
