Reassured in Sunday's consultation with Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus, BNP Secretary- General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the election would be held in due time already laid out.
"There is no doubt about that. The Chief Adviser has also confirmed this," he told reporters, as his party seniors nodded.
About the Jamaat allegation that the interim government aimed at an arranged election after the London meeting between Dr Yunus and BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, he said the Chief Adviser can naturally meet with the head of country's largest political party.
"It is his jurisdiction," he adds.
The BNP Secretary-General also spoke about the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad president and former DUCSU vice-president Nurul Haque Nur.
He said, "The attack was a heinous act. We fear that there may be attempts to delay the election, but there is no scope for that."
At around 7.00pm, the BNP delegation, led by Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, entered the Chief Adviser's residence at Jamuna.
Among others in the party delegation were Standing Committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
Asked what opinion they have about banning the Jatiya Party-- just embroiled in the VP Nur matter, he said they did not discuss the issue during the meeting.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Chief Adviser held meetings with leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
