The Electoral Reform Commission, tasked with reforming the electoral system, will submit a report after consulting with all stakeholders.
Badiul Alam Majumdar, the secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik, or SUJAN, who is heading the commission, said the report will be based on feedback from stakeholders to ensure comprehensive reforms to the system, reports bdnews24.com.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the commission's second formal meeting at the Election Commission’s Agargaon headquarters on Wednesday, Badiul Alam emphasised the importance of gathering input despite the limited timeframe.
"Although time is short, we will engage with as many stakeholders as possible. After that, we will prepare and submit our report," he said.
The eight-strong commission was formed on Oct 3 and is tasked with submitting a report with recommendations to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus within 90 days.
Badiul highlighted the crucial role of the commission in shaping the future of the electoral system.
“The election roadmap and date will be determined based on the commission’s work. We take this very seriously, as it is our sacred duty to establish a strong foundation for the electoral system, paving the way for a fair and transparent election,” he said.
He also urged all parties to extend their cooperation in the process.
In response to a question from journalists, he said the commission would review all electoral laws and regulations to ensure they contribute to a fair election.
“We want a fresh start. What happened in the past is behind us. We aim to build a new relationship of cooperation with all the officials and staff here so that we can pave the way for an election we can be proud of—an election the nation will remember,” he added.
Badiul mentioned that the process for gathering opinions from political parties would be finalised after further discussions.
"We have just started, and you will be informed of everything. We will decide through discussions," he said.
