A delegation from the European Union has met with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin ahead of Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections.
The meeting began at the Election Commission building in Dhaka’s Agargaon at 11:00 am on Tuesday.
The six-member delegation was led by Michael Miller, the European Union’s ambassador to Bangladesh, according to bdnews24.com.
Other members included Sebastian Rieger-Brown, first secretary for political affairs, Enrico Lorenzone, team leader on inclusive governance, Michael Lidower, senior international advisor at the European Partnership for Democracy, Anas Wibawa, director of the EPD’s Citizen Election Observers Component Project, and Tanja Nader, programme manager on inclusive governance in Bangladesh.
Election Commission officials said the discussions were expected to cover a project funded by the European Union.
The delegation has been holding a series of meetings with different stakeholders on initial preparations and projects related to monitoring the upcoming national elections.
Earlier, Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said a pre-election observation team from the European Union could arrive in Bangladesh in mid-September.
