A case has been lodged against former Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder, 10 former and current officials of Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL) and former adviser to the Prime Minister on private industry and investment Salman F Rahman.
Former BIFFL CEO Formanul Islam lodged the lawsuit with Dhaka's Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam's court, accusing them of forcing resignation, fraud and defamation, according to the case documents obtained by The Financial Express.
The court also recorded the plaintiff’s statement and instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the allegations and submit a report, Mr Islam confirmed.
According to the case, the accused in July 2019 conspired to pressure the plaintiff into recommending a loan proposal of Tk 14 billion for Salman F Rahman's Teesta Solar Project. When he refused, citing company policies, former Governor Talukder expressed anger. Later, they demanded an advance of Tk 2.0 billion through an investment in zero-coupon bonds and the refused it too, citing insufficient funds. This further angered the former governor.
As the plaintiff continued to reject their illegal demands, the accused forced him to resign from his job, causing him significant financial loss, social harm, and defamation, the case added.
