Police have arrested a man known as the “cashier” of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in connection with the 2015 attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade.
The arrestee, identified as Mosharraf Hossain alias Minoty Mosharraf, was detained from the Gulshan area around 11:00 pm on Thursday, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman.
He was produced before a court on Friday, which granted a three-day remand for interrogation, according to a UNB report.
According to Tejgaon Police Station, Mosharraf is an accused in a number of cases, including one filed over a bomb attack targeting Khaleda Zia’s convoy.
He had previously served as Youth and Sports Secretary of the Awami League’s Tejgaon Thana unit and was also chairman of the Gosairhat Upazila Parishad.
The attack took place in April 2015 during Khaleda Zia’s campaign for BNP-backed mayoral candidate Tabith Awal in the Dhaka North City Corporation election.
Her motorcade came under assault allegedly by leaders and activists of the Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League.
A case over the incident was filed on August 22, 2024.
