The trial of former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed will continue even if he remains abroad, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Sunday.
“If he is proven guilty, he must return home. The government will not spare him in the least,” Quader, also Awami League general secretary, told a press conference at the Awami League President’s Political Office in Dhaka’s Dhanmandi.
Mr Benazir has reportedly left for Singapore with his family for his wife’s medical treatment amid allegations of corruption against him.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated investigations into these allegations and recently summoned Ahmed.
The former IGP is to appear at the ACC office on June 6, where he may face questioning over allegations against him.
Awami League Organising Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, among others, were present at the press conference.
