Former Bangladeshi Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury is under investigation following revelations of a vast overseas property portfolio worth hundreds of millions.
A recent report by Al Jazeera Investigative Unit, titled "The Minister's Millions," has unveiled Chowdhury's ownership of over 360 luxury properties, including homes in the UK, Dubai, and the US.
The properties were reportedly amassed during his time in office.
Despite earning a modest government salary. Chowdhury is alleged to have built a property empire worth nearly $500 million. Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has frozen his assets and launched a probe into possible money laundering and illicit financial gains.
Chowdhury has denied all allegations, insisting his wealth comes from legitimate international business ventures. However, the investigation has raised further questions about the legality of his financial dealings and connections with powerful political figures.
Bangladesh authorities are collaborating with international bodies to uncover the full extent of Chowdhury's financial activities and determine whether these assets were acquired through corruption.
