Anisul Huq, the former law minister under the Awami League government, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, the former chief of police, have been shown arrested in more cases.
Anisul was shown arrested in a murder case filed with the Khilgaon Police Station while Mamun was shown arrested in two murder cases filed with the Uttara East and Khilgaon Police Stations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury granted the police's petition after hearing it on Monday.
The suspects were presented to the court at 8am on Monday and then police petitioned to show them arrested in the cases.
Defence counsel Morshed Hossain Shaheen appealed for their bail. The state opposed the bail plea.
After the hearing and the defence and the state’s arguments, the judge ordered the suspects to be sent to jail.
Both suspects were shown arrested in the murder case of Muhammad Zubayer Ahmed from Khilgaon.
According to the case documents, Zubayer was seriously injured when police opened fire indiscriminately at the Khilgaon intersection on Aug 5, the day the Awami League government fell in the face of a mass uprising. He was taken to the Mugda Medical College Hospital where he later died.
Former IGP Mamun has also been shown arrested in the Sadikul Islam murder case filed with the Uttara East Police Station.
The Anti-discrimination Student Movement escalated across the country on Jul 14 in response to a statement made by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the case dossier said.
Protesters at the Uttara East Police Station area were attacked. Sadikul was shot during the attack. He died on Jul 20 under hospital care.
Police have already interrogated Anisul and Mamun in custody during several rounds of remand in different cases.
