Begum Tahura Ali, a former member of parliament (MP) from a reserved seat for women and director of the Citizen Group, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early Thursday.
She died at 6:11 am while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka, according to a post on Citizen Cables’ Facebook page.
Tahura’s daughter, popular actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon, also confirmed her mother’s death in a post on her Facebook page.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Begum Tahura Ali. May Almighty Allah forgive her, grant her Jannatul Ferdous, and give us all strength and patience to bear this loss,” she wrote.
Shaon also informed that her mother’s funeral prayers will be held at two locations. The first prayer will take place after Asr at Gulshan Azad Mosque, and the second will be held after Maghrib at Tejgaon Rahim Metal Central Mosque.
Tahura Ali served as a reserved seat MP from Jamalpur for two consecutive terms — from 1996 to 2001 and from 2009 to 2014.
