Speakers at a programme on Saturday underscored the need for reducing pressure on the capital city to make it liveable and sustainable.

Keeping this in view, they said establishing satellite towns with all required facilities, a multimodal transport network, and digital connectivity is vital.

The observations came at a focus group discussion titled “Decentralisation & Environmental Welfare of the Capital: Towards a Sustainable Dhaka,” organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at its office.

The discussion brought together experts and officials to present solutions and strategies.

Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan attended as the chief guest, while RAJUK Chairman Reazul Islam was present as the special guest.

The event also included a welcome address by DCCI President Md Taskeen Ahmed, followed by a keynote presentation by Architect Iqbal Habib, an environmental activist.
