Dhaka Metropolitan Police allege that two individuals named Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh were involved in the shooting of Inqilab Moncho Convenor and Dhaka-8 hopeful Sharif Osman bin Hadi, reports bdnews24.com.
In a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Additional Commissioner Nazrul Islam confirmed the identities of the two suspects and said: “Faisal fired the shots and Alamgir was in the driver's seat of the motorcycle."
Stating that the police are taking comprehensive measures to arrest the two, he said: "We do not have any information indicating that they have left the country. However, the BGB and all ports have been alerted so that they cannot escape."
Meanwhile, Faisal's passport has been suspended, he said.
He added that information is being collected from people who traffic people across the border and two of them have been detained for questioning.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the killers and the government has taken special measures to provide security to frontline July fighters and those who will contesting the elections, Nazrul said.
