The family of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman Hadi has given its permission for doctors in Singapore to proceed with a surgery as he remains in “life or death” condition.
Inqilab Moncho said in a post on Thursday that Hadi stands at the crossroads of life and death.
“Please pray so that Allah grants him a good and stable life. If Osman Hadi answers Allah’s call and joins the ranks of the martyrs, then all Bangladeshis who desire freedom are requested to gather at Shahbagh in order to ensure our sovereignty,” it said.
The post added that the group would blockade Shahbagh and bring all of Bangladesh to a standstill until his attempted killer is caught.
“If the murderer has fled to India, he must be arrested and brought back through discussions with the Indian government at any cost.”
Meanwhile, an Advisory Council meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday has discussed Hadi’s condition, the Chief Advisor’s Office says.
Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is regularly in touch with the chief advisor and is making inquiries about Hadi, it said. A senior official from the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs arrived in Singapore yesterday and is directly overseeing Hadi’s treatment.
Hadi has been undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital since Monday.
Hadi rose to prominence during the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League and had recently declared his intention to contest in the Dhaka-8 constituency as an independent candidate.
On Dec 12, he was attacked during a public outreach programme in Bijoynagar. He was shot in the head by assailants riding a motorbike as he travelled in a moving rickshaw.
He was first treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, underwent emergency surgery, and was later admitted to Evercare Hospital.
Doctors had earlier described his condition as “extremely critical”.
