Family of slain Jubo Dal leader Touhidul meets Cumilla GOC, demands justice

The wife and four family members of slain Jubo Dal leader Touhidul Islam have met with Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, commander of the 33rd Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army, seeking justice for his death.

The meeting took place at the GOC Headquarters in Cumilla Cantonment on Monday night, said Touhidul’s brother Sadekur Rahman on Tuesday.

During the meeting that followed a formal request from the family, he said, the GOC had pledged a fair investigation into the incident to bring all involved to justice.

Touhidul, 40, a local leader of the Jubo Dal, was detained by army personnel in the early hours of Friday. His family later found his body at Comilla Medical College and Hospital. The body bore injury marks.

A resident of Italla village in Cumilla’s Sadar Upazila, Touhidul worked for a shipping agent at Chattogram port. He is survived by his wife and four daughters.
