A motorcycle driver, identified as 42-year-old Obaidul Islam, has been killed after his vehicle was rammed by a bus in the Demra area of Dhaka.
His son Labib, 17, was riding with him at the time. He is currently injured and undergoing medical treatment.
The victims were residents of Munshi Bari in Jatrabari’s Matuail Dakkhin Para, reports bdnews24.com.
The accident occurred around 8:00 am on Tuesday when an Achim Paribahan bus collided with the motorcycle in front of the Mirpara Petrol Pump.
Jibon, a passerby who rushed the victims to the hospital, said: “While going to the office in the morning, I suddenly heard a loud noise in front of the Mirpara Petrol Pump. I rushed forward to find two people lying on the ground with blood all over them, and a motorcycle in front of an Achim Paribahan bus. I rescued them and took them to a local hospital.”
“When the hospital did not take them in, I took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 9:30 am, where the doctor declared one of them dead.”
Inspector Md Faruk, officer-in-charge of the hospital’s police outpost, said: “The body of the deceased, Obaidul, has been sent to the morgue for a post-mortem examination. His son Labib is undergoing treatment.”
Sub-Inspector Riyad Hossain of Demra Police Station said, “The father and son were riding the motorcycle back home when the incident occurred. The bus fled after hitting them, but we are trying to locate it.”
