A female university student has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University in Dhaka’s Banani area. Police detained Faria Haque Tina, an English department student at the University of Scholars, during a raid early Friday morning (May 9).

Parvez was fatally stabbed on April 19 following a dispute involving students from both universities. The argument reportedly stemmed from allegations of mockery involving two female students from the University of Scholars. Though the matter was reportedly resolved by Primeasia authorities, Parvez was later ambushed by a group of 30 to 40 people outside the campus.

He died from stab wounds after being taken to Kurmitola General Hospital.

The following day, Parvez’s cousin Humayun Kabir filed a case with the  Banani Police Station. The complaint named eight students—including Mahathi, Meherab, and Abuzar Gifari from the university's LLB and English departments—as well as 20 to 30 unidentified individuals.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities continue efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.
