The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MoCAT) has instructed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to waive all fees for additional special flights operated by various airlines following the devastating fire at the Import Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
According to a notification issued by the ministry on Monday, the waiver will apply to flights operated for three days from October 19 to 21.
In a letter sent to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and other relevant bodies, the ministry stated that the fire at the Import Cargo Building of HSIA on October 18 had disrupted flight schedules. In response, several airlines took the initiative to operate additional special flights.
"Therefore, you are requested to take necessary measures to waive the charges imposed on these additional special flights operated by various airlines from October 19 through midnight on October 21," the letter also read.
After visiting the spot, Commerce and Civil Aviation Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin on Sunday said, the government would take initiative to waive all types of tariff for all the non-scheduled additional flights arriving and departing over the next three days.
The ministry issued the notification following his announcement.
Authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka suspended all flight operations for several hours after a devastating fire broke out at the airport's Import Cargo Village.
During the suspension, flights were diverted to Osmani International Airport in Sylhet and Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
Flight operations resumed at 9:18pm after the fire was brought under control.
