Fire at private bank in Chattogram under control

A fire that broke out at a private bank branch in the Amtola area of Chattogram city has been brought under control.

The fire that erupted in the office of United Commercial Bank PLC Limited (UCB) Branch on Jubilee Road at Rifles Club Bhaban around 7pm was brought under control around 9pm, local media reported.

Officials of the fire service, however, could not confirm the cause of the fire or the extent of the losses from it immediately.

Manager (operations) of the UCB Branch Md Moinuddin Chowdhury was quoted as saying that the branch was closed when it caught fire.

He said that he came to the scene after receiving information from the branch security staff about the fire. Fire service units were on the scene, and smoke was still billowing from inside.
