Another fire has broken out at the Shahjibazar 60 MegaWatt Power Plant in Habiganj’s Madhabpur Upazila only four days after a blaze disrupted the supply at the same facility.
The fire was brought under control by officials from the power department within 30 minutes.
According to officials, the fire began at 12:37pm at the TR-2 breaker and current transformer (CT) of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh on Monday.
The incident disrupted the power supply from the grid substation for approximately 1.5 hours.
Md Russell Khan Chowdhury, deputy assistant engineer at the Shahjibazar Power Substation, said the fire was triggered by a loud explosion around 12pm.
Officials from the power department responded immediately and worked for about 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.
He said a breaker and CT were damaged in the incident. However, power supply has since returned to normal across the district.
Earlier, a fire broke out at the same substation on Jul 31 due to a mechanical fault.
After two days of repairs and the installation of new equipment, officials had restored power to the area.
