Fire breaks out in city slum

A devastating fire that broke out at the city’s Bhasantek slum on Thursday evening was brought under control by the fire fighters.

Some 10 units of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence doused the fire at around 7:30pm after the fire originated at around 6:45pm, according to the fire service control room.

The fire originated at the Jamal coat area of the slum.

The fire service primarily sent six units and then more four units shortly after being informed the fire incident, and finally brought the fire under control with frantic efforts of fire fighters at around 7:25 pm, duty officer Rozina Islam told the FE.

Loss and casualties could not be ascertained immediately, she added, until the report was filed at 8:30 pm.
