A fire that broke out in a residential building in the capital’s Banani Chairmanbari has been brought under control after almost an hour of efforts.
The Fire Service received the report of the blaze around 7pm on Friday.
Fire Service spokesperson Anwarul Islam said the fire was brought under control around 8pm after efforts by four units.
“After receiving the report at 7:07pm, Fire Service teams reached the spot and started work at 7:22pm. The fire was brought under control at 7:54pm with the efforts of four units from Kurmitola and Baridhara fire stations,” he said.
According to him, the fire broke out on the fifth floor of the five-storey residential building, at a cork sheet and hardboard storage.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be determined immediately.
Earlier, the Gulshan traffic division said in a Facebook post that traffic movement was disrupted due to the fire in the building next to Airport Road.
The post said a building caught fire near the Banani Chairmanbari flyover, causing traffic on the airport-bound lane of the road to remain closed for some time.
