All firearm licenses issued to civilians from January 6, 2009, to August 5, 2024, have been revoked by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The home ministry has also requested the civilians holding licenses to return the firearms, along with ammunition, to the relevant police stations by September 3.
Public security division of the ministry issued a notification regarding this on Sunday.
The notification states that the district magistrate will take the necessary actions in accordance with the Arms Act of 1878 and the 'Firearms License Issuance, Renewal, and Usage Policy, 2016' issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
