Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized firearms, ammunition, mortar shells, and anti-hand grenades in a special operation conducted in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district.

According to a BGB press release, the seized items include one locally made pistol, 10 rifle bullets, three 60mm mortar shells, four anti-hand grenades, two body-set fuses, and three additional fuses.

Acting on a tip-off that a consignment of firearms and ammunition was being smuggled through the Hoiyang border under the jurisdiction of BGB's Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), BGB members conducted a raid in the Bilasir Dwip area of the Hoiyang border around 5:25 pm on Sunday. The arms and ammunition were found abandoned in the jungle during the raid, reports BSS.

BGB has intensified its intelligence surveillance to identify and arrest those involved in the smuggling attempt.

The recovered weapons and ammunition were handed over to the Teknaf Model Police Station as evidence. Necessary steps have been taken to destroy the mortar shells and grenades.

A case has been filed in this regard.
