Five face death penalty over murder in Chandpur

A court in Chandpur has sentenced five men to death in a case filed over killing a young man in 2008.

Additional district and Sessions Judge Mamunur Rashid handed down the verdict on Tuesday, said Advocate Shayedul Islam Babu public prosecutor of the case.

According to the case statement, the convicts killed Md Masud Rana, 23, son of Md Rabiul Islam of Dakkhin Rari village of Matlab Uttar upazila by strangulated him on October, 5, 2008, over previous enmity.

Later the victim's father filed a murder case with Matlab Uttar Police Station accusing eight people.

Police submitted charge sheet to the court on May 30, 2009.

After examining the 15 witnesses among 34 and all records the Additional district and Sessions Judge handed down the verdict.

UNB said, the court also acquitted three other accused from the charge.

The convicts were identified as Md Yamin Bepari, 24, son of Abdul Rahim Bepari of Dakkhin Lodhua village of Matlab Uttar upazila, Md Selim Majhi, 22, son of Abdul Kashem Majhi of the same village, Md Abdul Khalek Mollah, 32, son of Noyab Ali of Paschim Ladhua village, Md Faruk alias Nabi, 25, son of Barek Bepari and Md Ali Munshi, 28, son of late Mokhlesur Rahman Munshi of the same village.
